Meet Doug Davies

Doug Davies’ passion for art began early with simple sketches and doodles, eventually evolving into the expressive watercolor and mixed media paintings he creates today. His artistic journey has been shaped by a life rich in experiences, discipline, and storytelling — all of which continue to influence his work and artistic perspective.

Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Doug spent part of his childhood in British Columbia before returning to Ontario, where he developed a love for both athletics and creativity. During high school he played trumpet, wrestled, competed in football, and explored art whenever he had the opportunity. His passion for sports eventually led him back to British Columbia, where he attended Simon Fraser University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology while becoming a four-year starter on the university football team.

Doug realized a lifelong dream in 1987 when he was selected in the second round of the Canadian Football League draft by the Montreal Alouettes. Over the course of a 12-year professional football career, he played offensive line for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Calgary Stampeders, and B.C. Lions. While with the Calgary Stampeders, Doug played in two Grey Cup Championships and earned a championship ring in 1992. During those years, he also met his wife Dana, and together they built a family that now includes two children and grandchildren.

Following his retirement from professional football, Doug pursued another passion — helping others through chiropractic care. He attended Western States Chiropractic College in Portland, Oregon, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Doctorate in Chiropractic. Today, he serves as an assistant professor at Parker University in Dallas, Texas, where he teaches the healing art of chiropractic.

Throughout every chapter of life, art remained a constant. Encouraged by family, friends, and especially his wife Dana, Doug continued refining his skills through self-study and inspiration from many of today’s leading watercolor artists. He also credits his mother-in-law, accomplished artist Ann, as a tremendous influence in his artistic development and growth.

In 2013, Doug was accepted into the Watercolor Society of Oregon, where his work received recognition in annual exhibitions. Since relocating to Texas, he has expanded into acrylic painting while continuing to explore watercolor and other water media techniques. His work is deeply inspired by the spirit of the Old West, rural landscapes, horses, barns, motorcycles, and the beauty found in authentic everyday moments.

Through DD Studio Arts, Doug hopes his work evokes the same passion, nostalgia, and appreciation for craftsmanship that inspires him every time he puts brush to paper.
